A Broken Marriage Mended!
Danny and Erika Davis: Member for 4 years
Danny and Erika would be the first to admit that it was issues in both their lives that resulted in the couple separating after a tumultuous marriage. But both would also agree that a deep and abiding love for each other, and finding a church that provided a strong support system for their marriage, is what brought them back together.
The Fort Lauderdale couple had been separated more than two years, and headed for divorce when Erika was involved in a work related accident. Alone, and with no family nearby, Erika had no one to turn to for help.
“I wasn’t able to walk, and my family was away in Ohio,” recalls Erika. “I had no one to help me, and Danny stepped in. He was there for me, and he never left my side. He took care of me like we had been together all along.”
As Erika’s body began to mend, so did the couple’s relationship. Soon, they realized that God intended for them to be together.
“One day, we decided we were going to try and work it out,” Danny said, “so we googled churches on the Internet. My wife is Hispanic, so when we saw the name Fernandez as pastor, we assumed The Faith Center was a Spanish church.”
The first Sunday they attended The Faith Center, Danny and Erika discovered the church was multi-cultural. But they also discovered something else—it was exactly what they were looking for.
“It was like nothing we had ever experienced,” Danny says. “Bishop Fernandez was speaking about success in your marriage, and everything he said touched on us. It was as though he was in our house during those troubled times, and throughout our separation. The messages have enabled our spiritual lives to come full circle. They have impacted us in so many ways—from our marriage being strengthened to us being able to witness to others.
“There are a lot of people who I ran with—guys who knew me when I was doing my thing out in the street, who gave up on me,” says Danny. “They didn’t think for one minute that I could change my life. But, God was always with me. I just didn’t realize it. By coming to The Faith Center and being able to not only hear the Word, but get involved with the ministry through serving, I did change.
“We were apart, and it was a rough time for both of us,” Danny says. “But God wouldn’t let us give up. That would be my advice to anyone who finds themselves in the situation we were in. You don’t have to throw in the towel. God can do anything. If He did it for us, He can do it for you too!”
“I would tell any couple that’s going through a difficult time in their marriage that as long as you go to a Bible-believing church, and you’re receiving God’s Word, then you can make it,” adds Erika. “The teaching at The Faith Center has been so real for us. The Word has strengthened our marriage and made it healthy. It works!”
